 ATTENDANCE is essential.
You can learn the language only if you hear it.

Roll is taken at the beginning of the period. Late students are expected to enter quietly and join class activities without disrupting class. A note will be needed to excuse a tardy. It is the student’s responsibility to have absences excused following school policy.
The Springfield High staff is striving to help students meet Oregon’s required academic standards. The staff requests that parents uphold the expectation that regular school attendance is important. Parents are asked not to excuse students unless they are ill or there is a family emergency. Please avoid scheduling family trips or medical appointments that cause students to miss school.
Springfield High School attendance policy will be observed.
HOMEWORK
Homework gives you the opportunity to practice what you have learned in class and to improve learning. You can expect some homework almost every day. Most assignments are short, and usually you will have class time to work on it. You should also spend some extra time reviewing vocabulary and verbs. Homework is recorded at the beginning of the class period. To receive credit for homework, you need to be in your seat with the homework page open on your desk when the bell rings. Late homework will be counted only if the tardy or absence is excused.
Homework assignments are posted in the classroom. You are responsible for checking the assignment list and handing in late assignments as soon as possible after your return to class. Late work will not be accepted more than one week after a student’s return to class.
Absent Student Study Guides are available in the classroom (see bulletin board). You are welcome to take one for study outside of class, whether you are absent or not!

MAKE-UP TESTS
If you have an excused absence check the “Devoirs” section of the bulletin board to see if you missed a quiz. You may make up a quiz within one week of your absence. It may be necessary to schedule an appointment with the teacher outside of class time. The content of the make-up quiz/test will be the same, but the format may be different from the one given in class. Students are responsible for keeping track of which tests they need to make up, and for coming in at the appointed time.

HALL PASSES
Please do not interrupt the class with requests to leave. Use the bathroom and get a drink of water before class starts. If you need to go in case of emergency, make your request in French! School Hall Pass policy will be observed.
FOOD AND DRINK
No food or drink. Water bottles are okay.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES
School policy states, “The possession and use of electronic devices is not consistent with the SHS mission of ensuring that students use instructional time to fulfill their potential to gain success and experience academic excellence. . .”
•	No cell phones.
•	No mp3 or CD players.
•	No headphones.
Please keep all of the above items silent and out of sight while in class. In order to maintain an excellent learning environment, school policy on electronic devices will be observed.
ATTITUDE
I want to see all of you succeed in learning French! We will have fun, but we will also work hard.
This class will be a place where everyone can learn. Any behavior that interferes with the learning environment will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to, talking out when the teacher is talking, insubordination, off-task or out-of seat behavior, foul language or derogatory comments of any kind. In the case of disruptive behavior, the student will be asked to leave the classroom and wait quietly in the hallway until he/she can return to class to work productively. In the case of repeated disruptions, in accordance with school policy, a referral will be written and parents will be notified.
Success will come when you give your entire attention to French when in class, come to class every day unless you are absolutely too ill, bring your books and materials, put forth effort to learn, and turn your work in on time. Remember that if you do these things, you will do well and pass.

Bonne Chance et Bonne Année!
