Woods I Course Expectations

Department: Industrial Technology Course: Woods I
Teacher: Mr. Touchette Requirements Met: Elective

COURSE CONTENT
Woods I is for students wishing to learn to use hand tools and operate power woodworking machinery. Students will be instructed in safety, planning, design, and calculating material lists and costs.

GENERAL WOODSHOP RULES

1. There are three activities that can occur in the woodshop that will be viewed as serious enough to consider expulsion from the class

· STEALING - Shop material or from other students
· HORSEPLAY - Continued warnings about activities not allowed in the shop.
· VANDALISM - Causing damage to another person's project or to any property of the school shop.

2. Safety is of utmost importance. Safe work habits and attitudes will be stressed. Students are expected to follow all safety rules for the lab, work in a safe manner at all times, consider others as well as themselves, or forfeit the right to use the lab. Students will take safety tests and be expected to satisfactorily pass all required exams.

3. Clothing will be appropriate for a working environment and will follow campus guidelines

4. Everyone will wear safety glasses during all shop activities.

5. All materials purchased from the shop will be listed by size, type of material and number of pieces taken from stock. This information all goes on a project material form (pmf) and must be given to the instructor before the material is machined in any way. If this is not done it will be viewed as stealing and will be governed by the rule about stealing in rule 1.

6. No material will be issued to a student until the initial payment is received, if this is a problem arrangements can be made with the instructor before the issue of material.

7. Woodshop is a project-based class therefore attendance is of the highest importance. When a student reaches 9 absences for the 9 weeks and 18 for the semester, no credit or passing grade will be issued. The exception to this rule is if a student has attended one full makeup period for each of the absences. The makeup periods are Tuesday and Thursday at lunch and the student must spend 25 minutes working on shop work.

8. All students will participate in clean up, this is a significant part of the 9 week and semester grade.

9. A student will be marked tardy if they are not in their seat when the bell rings.

10. You are to remain at your assigned seat (not by the door) until excused by the instructor. The bell is a reminder to the instructor to excuse the class.
